It's a favourite day for locals and a true celebration of Logan's history - Mayes in May is always a popular event, and this year it is back bigger and better than ever.
Part of the month-long Mayfest celebrations, Mayes in May takes visitors on a trip down memory lane with a day jam packed with events all designed to give a taste of days gone by.
Held at Logan's oldest residential address, Mayes Cottage, the event features vintage car displays, spinning and weaving, pig racing, bush bands and much more.
Customer Service, Marketing and Parks Committee Chairperson, Councillor Lynne Clarke (Division 7) said Mayes in May was a great family day out.
"Mayes in May is all about real, wholesome family fun, as well as being a perfect chance to learn about this region's rich history," she said.
"Hundreds of families attend the event each year and a great time is always had by everyone."
Cr Clarke said Mayes Cottage was a historical place of interest, and the perfect spot for the celebration of Logan's history to be held.
"John and Emily Mayes and their two children came to this area from England in 1871 and built this house which they called Pleasant Place in 1887," she said.
"By this time their family had grown to seven children and their timber-selling business had prospered so it was a beautiful home for its time with some magnificent views."
Mayes Cottage was at risk of being demolished in 1974 and was fortunately saved through political action by the Kingston Progress Association - which demonstrates the importance the community places in the historic home.
''It is the perfect venue for Mayes in May and gives us all a true sense of life as it was then,'' Cr Clarke said.
Mayes in May will be held on Sunday, 16 May. Mayes Cottage is located at 20 Mawarra Drive, Kingston.
Logan City Council will provide a free shuttle bus from the Kingston Butter Factory to the event.
